Task
Details and Instructions Purpose The purpose of this assessment is to describe and analyse a contemporary social movement including its key constituents and their social position, methods of recruitment and organising. Using sociological theories of social structures and social movements outline this movements development and analyse it movement in relation to its structural position, power and capacity to change society.
Process
In teams of up to 3, select one Australia-based contemporary social movement. To do this you might read a reputable news site such as the ABC. SBS, the Guardian or The Conversation and collect stories regarding this movement.
Look for articles or media reports on the various elements of contemporary movements (e.g. the use of social media).
Look for information on the organising processes of this movement, including who participates and how they participate.
Think about which social theories might be relevant to analyse the movement and look for articles or books about them.
Analyse this movement in terms of its structural position, the structural position of its key members and its relative inclusivity.
Use this to analyse the current success/failure and :rnract of the key strategies of the movement.
Based on the information you reviewed, what do you think will this movement look like in 10 years from now? Explain why you think this anchoring your argument in social theory, history, and empirical evidence.
Part A. Team Presentation:
For the presentation your group will need to develop a PowerPoint (or similar) presentation. In the slideshow, which needs to be uploaded to the class space assessment dropbox, you need to include:
A title page that informs the audience of the social movement you have selected to address, as well as the names of group members and the name of your teacher.
Presentation of key points outlined above.
Demonstration of sound understanding of key issues, current affairs, and social theory. • A reference list at the end of your slide presentation written according to APA (7th edition) conventions.
