Read the attached ‘From Death we Learn – Vital signs are Vital’. This incident occurred prior to the implementation of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards as we know them today.
To complete this assignment, students are required to prepare a ten-minute, Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation with recorded voice narration and written transcript on the following topic:
Applying your knowledge of the NSQHS standards (Version 2, updated 2021), determine the standards which are now in practice that may have prevented this unfortunate death and any overarching policies that are used in practice today (e.g.: WA Health policies, ACSQHC clinical guidelines).
The presentation is not about presenting the facts about the incident - it is about applying theory to practice, making the audience think and question the information that is presented. The aim is to engage the audience and facilitate understanding. The presentation duration is only 10 minutes, so it is unlikely students will be able to cover the entire topic – students may have to choose a certain part on which to focus so the presentation can be prepared in sufficient depth.
Your presentation will be assessed against the attached Oral Presentation Marking Guide. Please read this carefully to ensure you include all necessary information. Written transcript – this is your script for the presentation. Please ensure it follows your presentation and is not written as a separate essay/document.
Students will require Microsoft PowerPoint software and a computer with either an inbuilt or external microphone. The presentation should be prepared so that slides and voice narration run automatically. Tips to help students prepare this presentation using various Microsoft PowerPoint editions are provided in the link below.
