You are responsible for inducting and supporting a new group of case managers / workers who have recently joined your organisation.
Your task today is to provide them with a training session which helps them to understand their own role in the organisation and how your systems of work, organisational policies and procedures and supervision arrangements will help them succeed in their new roles.
You can complete this task in a simulated classroom setting, using other class members as participants in the induction session, or you can conduct this session in a real workplace environment during a workplace induction.
You will need to include information about six areas of work performance:
Practice standards – The standards of practice which are used in your organisation. You will need to include a printed practice standard document that you have written and developed yourself
Legislative landscape – How the worker’s role relates to the relevant legislation and organisational framework, including the key laws, policies and procedures which apply and recent changes to legislation which might impact on work role.
Consultation – How case workers are expected to consult and learn from and with other workers within and external to the organisation: what team arrangements will you establish to allow workers to interact, how will your work team participate in consultation with other stakeholders and collect information from relevant stakeholders, and how will you structure, guide and promote these activities?
Workplace tasks – What case workers need to do to remain up to date with their case work notes and plans, and what you expect as their supervisor when they are completing case notes, making referrals or seeking advice and guidance: where and how will you meet, what should they do if they are unsure, how you can be contacted and in what circumstances, how they should manage in a crisis situation?
Support – How you will support them with complex cases, including providing advice, support and direction.
Guidance – Advice about specialist support and culturally specific workers who can help them in their case work: why this might be important and how they should initiate contact with a specialist or culturally specific worker or organisation.
Prepare the training session, including verbal, visual and written information suitable for new case managers. Your training session should be designed as if you are delivering it as part of an induction or early career training session at your organisation.
