DR Alarms is currently negotiating with an ICS company in Germany to become its sales agent for the European Union. The company is considering whether to provide monitoring services to end-users of its products. The company has realised that end-user monitoring could give it a major competitive advantage over other alarm suppliers, as well as provide useful data on how its products were used and the type of data collected. DR Alarms is now seriously considering introducing this service, but has not yet made any decision about it. The MD has been told that he should develop a strategy to provide for the protection for data and prevention of privacy loss across the company and its different storage sites in AWS and their on-premise data centre.

He has been told of the possible benefits that may come from the use of a Zero Trust security model, but he is somewhat sceptical about the practicality of using a Zero Trust security model in the DR Alarms environment. Tasks You have been engaged to research and review possible data protection and privacy loss prevention strategies for DR Alarms. You are to write a report that compares and discusses both the Layered Defence and the Zero Trust security models as they would be used in the DR Alarms environment: Analyse and discuss the differences between a Layered Defence and a Zero Trust strategy for DR Alarms. What are the benefits and issues that DR Alarms would face with the implementation of either strategy? (25 marks).
