In this assessment you will conduct some research to enable you to write a report which applies risk management principles, framework and process to a small construction company, and the risks associated with the task of building a brick wall (i.e. digging a trench, mixing concrete/mortar, moving bricks, constructing wall).

The aim is to show your understanding of practical risk management by advising the employer how to comply with legal requirements and integrate risk management into their organisation, and advice to the employer/worker how to conduct the task safely.

Step 1: Preparation: Review the literature and guidance information which you source, to identify the risk management issues associated with running a small construction company, and the hazards and risk controls associated with the task of building a brick wall.  Ask yourself what is the national performance of small businesses and what needs to happen to improve this (i.e. context, crietria)? Ask yourself what does a small business need to do to integrate risk management into their operations?  What are the hazards associated with building a brick wall?  

Step 2: Literature review: Review and summarise up to 10 contemporary peer reviewed papers or other authoritative literature concerned with safety performance of small organisations.

Step 3: Plan your report: Use the structure of AS/NZ ISO31000, particularly the ‘Principles’, ‘Framework’ and ‘Process’ to develop a plan of how to improve the safety performance of a small construction company.  Use the task (i.e. building a wall) as an example of the risk management "Process".  Use the information from Part 2 to populate your plan.  
 
Step 4: Report: Present your findings in a report in response to the "criteria" in the marking guide /rubric.  Your report must describe your advice to the construction company about the benefit of risk based approach (i.e. Principles and Framework), and, a risk assessment of the task
