Assessment Instructions Your first task in this assessment is to read the following hypothetical problems for a product: Context: The Rainbow Steam Cleaning System is a relatively new entrant in the steam cleaner market. It is able to remove 99.9% harmful bacteria without using any harsh chemicals. Not only can it be used to mop floors and clean carpets but (thanks to its detachable pod) also windows and grout. Scented discs can be inserted to remove odours and there are many customisable setting options included. Problem 1: Rainbow is currently using a conventional direct selling methods. Other competitors such as Diason have expanded their distribution network across various retailers such as Harvey Norman. Competing and making sustainable profit in this environment requires Rainbow to analyse their strengths and opportunities for expansion in the market. Problem 2: In this competitive market, consumers are constantly looking for information. Due to the nature of their selling, Rainbow products are struggling with consumers being unaware of this product. Problem 3: The marketing manager at Rainbow believes that the major factor that influences consumers to purchase their products is reference groups. So, he believes that creating a direct selling network (where customers further sell the products to their reference groups) is the most effective way to impact the decision of the consumers.
