1. An air operator is considering two aircraft types for its services. One aircraft is a turbojet and the other is a turboprop. Details for the two aircraft are as follows:

b. What is the maximum distance that the turbo prop aircraft can fly and still carry 30 passengers at an average weight of 200 lb per passenger?

c.he Turbo jet aircraft must operate a route where the sector distance is 1,300 nm. Calculate the maximum number of passengers (200 lb per passenger) and cargo it can carry under these conditions.

d.For Cost and operational reasons, the operator is considering the use of the turbo prop aircraft to operate in a special mission operation into a remote area. The airport (known as Alpha) is located 1300 nm from the aircraft’s operating base but there is an intermediate airport (known as Beta) located at 900 nm along track at which the aircraft can land and refuel. Given that there are no performance related take-off and landing restrictions at any of the airports, what is the maximum number of passengers they can transport from their operating base to Alpha? (Assume 200 lb per passenger and that the number of passengers on the aircraft remains the same throughout the trip to Alpha.)

2.A four engine transport category aircraft (MTOW > 5,700 kg) operates from an airport where its take-off weight is limited by its minimum legal climb gradient requirements in all segments of the take-off flight path. The airport is situated at an altitude of 600 ft and the conditions on the day are ISA and zero wind.

The aircraft experiences an engine failure on take-off which is identified at V1 and the pilot elects to continue the take-off. Calculate the distance covered by the aircraft from the 35 ft point to the point where the aircraft reaches a gross height of 1,500 ft based on a gross third segment height of 400 ft above the take-off surface. Give your answer in nautical miles

The aircraft reaches the end of the first segment 875 m from the 35 ft point. The aircraft has a V2 of 170 knots (IAS) and an en-route climb speed (i.e., the speed at the end of the third segment) of 230 knots (IAS). The minimum gradient and acceleration limits as outlined in CAO 20.7.1B Section 7 Take-off Climb Performance apply.
