Hotel August set in tranquil surroundings in Frogner, a short distance from downtown and Frogner Park. The hotel was built in 1926 and originally had 56 rooms (84 beds). The hotel was quickly popular, partly because of its excellent French cuisine. After the war, the hotel was a popular haunt of Norwegians, partly because director Charles Martin Rostrup expanded with a small scene and arranged simple revues. In the years after the war, the hotel has grown steadily with constant extensions and additions (cabaret theatre was closed and rebuilt into a new restaurant in 1963). The hotel currently has 81 rooms with a total of 150 beds.
The hotel has over the years managed to retain some of its traditional character. Interior and décor are characterized by a mix of antiques, art and more modern furniture (of Danish design). The hotel appears to be tasteful and upscale, but a bit old-fashioned and tired.
Plus, to the French-inspired restaurant, the hotel also has a small trendy café. The hotel has several celebrities, both from Norway and abroad as regular guests. Karl Frederik Rostrup took over the management of the daily operations of the hotel in 2018. His father Karl Martin Rostrup took over as Chairman and CEO of the Group.
