In this assignment you will develop a teaching resource, which consist of two parts. Part 1 requires you to develop two activities for a year level and content descriptor of your choosing from the Australian Science Curriculum or equivalent state and/or territory curriculum documents. In Part 2, you will analyse a range of assessment strategies that are appropriate for the activities developed.

As classroom teachers, you'll develop your skills to develop engaging lessons that will incorporate Information Communications Technology (ICT) and problem-based learning approaches to teaching, as well as developing skills to competently assess, provide feedback and report on student learning. It is essential that you are able to select and implement effective assessment strategies, which will allow you to make accurate and meaningful judgments to inform student progress.

Part 1 

Select one content descriptor from any one of the F to 6 year levels of the national, state and/or territory curriculum Science documents. Within this content descriptor, outline the key concept(s) of the content area you chose. The key concept(s) should align with the learning objectives of the activities that you create.

Based on the learning objectives and the key concept(s), develop two activities and include associated teaching strategies you will use to teach the concept(s).

Note: You are not developing a complete unit of work, but rather, two activities that could be included by a teacher in a unit of work for the content area.

For each activity, list the resources you will use to help scaffold children’s learning of the key concept(s), and how each of these activities fit within the pedagogy you have chosen to deliver the activity.

Part 2

Analyse a range of assessment strategies for the activities created. Make comparisons through your analysis and then consider the benefits, limitations and implementation constraints of each.

Consider and discuss how assessment strategies inform student progress, and how this is essential to the ongoing teaching and learning process.
