For this assessment you must critically analyse an actually existing policy or policy program that aims at mitigating some form of economic inequality. The policy or policy program selected can be one that has recently been enacted or is proposed by some major political figure. It cannot be a policy proposed only by an academic or commentator.Some examples of policies or policy programs that would be appropriate selections include:-some element of the ‘Green New Deal’-the first home buyer’s grant-the Gruen Banks’ micro-lending programs-the Dutch homeless sheltering policy-the $15 national mimimum wage in the USThere are many, many policies that speak to or affect different forms of inequality. Be creative!If you are unsure of whether the policy/policy program you have chosen to analyse is appropriate, please ask me.In your analysis you should do the following things:-describe the policy in terms of its aims and means (how it intends to effect its aims)-describe how the policy relates to inequality-identify the economic ideas, theories, approaches that inform the policy, both in its assessment of a problem and its means of managing that problem. These should be derived from the first five topics of the course.-comment on the political ramifications of the policy — what political factors may prevent its adoption or effectiveness; what political ends the policy serves; what political machinations have occurred to give the policy its form-comment on how effective you think the policy will be-comment on how the policy might be improved. These tasks should not be done separately from one another nor necessarily done in this order. Rather you should analyse the proposal and on the basis of this analysis should make a coherent, cohesive argument of your own. In doing these tasks you should be able to say that you have completed most or all of these tasks (whichever of them are relevant to the policy you are examining).This is a critical piece of writing: you should have a clear position and argument; you should not merely describe the policy/policy program._
