Work-Study Options in Edith Cowan University
ECU has developed the human resource department and they have discussed the ongoing opportunities of student employment that would help in meeting potential financial aspects. Student employment program has been introduced with the implementation of digital marketing techniques along with provision of support to help current and potential students from ECU students. The available part-time jobs would help the student to develop awareness, confidence and associated positive attitudes that would be helpful in the future aspects of employment.
University of South Australia On-Campus Accommodation
Multiple accommodation options are offered by the University of South Australia to the students. However, on-campus accommodation is only offered by the Whyalla Student Residential Village. It is the best place to live if a student’s intention is to study at the modern, vibrant regional centre.
The Units
There are 11 ground floor units at Whyalla Student Residential Village and each of this unit houses eight residents in individual bedrooms. All the large bedrooms are fully furnished with single bed and mattress, built-in robes and drawers, chair, study desk, bookcases and reverse cycle air conditioning. The students can also add a fridge, television and computer. A bedroom is shared by the residents with one other resident and privacy is maintained through a separate doorway into the corridor. The lounge, kitchen/dining, and laundry areas are communal for all eight residents and these areas are also fully furnished. The units are self-catering and all crockery, cutlery and cookware are provided to the students. Disability access is catered for in two units and it includes wheelchairs access to amenities.

Security
The resident security officers patrol the Village regularly so that a safe and secure environment for all the residents can be secured. Security telephones are also provided inside all units so that the students can access the security staff 24 hours via these telephones. This accommodation facility provides off-street car parking, and a lockable storage shed is available for bicycles and other storages. Own individual key is there for each room and the key is attached to a registered master-key system.
Socialising
Two barbeques are available in this Village under the large modern pergola, as well as a half-court basketball court and full-size beach volleyball court for energetic residents.

Multiple off-campus accommodation is offered by the University of South Australia to its students. They are UniSA Student Accommodation by Urbanest, Homestay, Residential Colleges, Student Apartments, Private Rentals, Non-Profit Housing, Indigenous Hostels and Mount Gambier. Details about these accommodations are mentioned below:
UniSA Student Accommodation by Urbanest – Urbanest is one of the leading student accommodation providers in Australia, and it is involved in designing, building and operating student accommodation for enhancing the students’ educational experience. UniSA’s student accommodation by Urbanest is located on Bank Street within Adelaide’s cultural precinct and is in a truly ideal location for students. It is within easy reach of the University of South Australia’s CBD and Metro campuses, Rundle Mall shopping, the West End’s vibrant nightlife and across the road from Adelaide train station and tram stop. It is situated at 7 minute walk to the University of South Australia – City West Campus and 12 minute walk to the University of South Australia – City East Campus. All the rooms are fully furnished and air conditioned. It provided easy access to public transport for both Magill and Mawson Lakes campuses and there is unlimited wireless internet throughout the buildings.
Homestay – It provides students with the opportunity to live with a local family, couple or single person so that the students can familiarise themselves with the new environment. It is a further opportunity for the international students to practice their English language skills and learn about the Australian lifestyle. Homestay is chosen by some students just for their first four weeks in Adelaide and they look for long term accommodation during this time. Homestay is preferred by others for long term. Normally, your own furnished room and meals are provided. Electricity, water and gas are included, too. Costs are $195 - $310 per week, as well as the placement fee. Students need to apply to the Australian Homestay Network and to increase their chances of a match with a suitable host, the students are recommended to apply at least six weeks before their arrival in Adelaide.
Residential Colleges – It is a popular option for the students who live away from their family home for the first time and it is a great way to meet other students. The students can usually expect the following if they choose to stay in a residential college:

Student Hostels – It is an affordable option for the students living away from home for the first time and a great way to meet other students. The student hostels under the University of South Australia are Gosse International Student Residence, Semaphore House, SharedLivingSA, StudentRooms, Torrens Valley International Residence, and UNIShare.
Student Apartments – These apartments and townhouses cater to a wide range of budget and generally includes the following features:

- close to UniSA campuses
- bonds equivalent to four weeks' rent usually apply; advance rent is limited to two weeks

Private Rentals – The students can for vacancies using the UniSA Rental Database along with the real estate portal for private rental properties. Vacancies listed on our Rental Database are specifically for UniSA students and staff.
Non-Profit Housing – These providers operate on a not for profit or subsidised basis, so eligibility criteria apply. A referral may be necessary and there is normally a waiting list. Non-profit housing is usually unfurnished. These providers include Anglicare, Common Ground, Globe Apartments – NRAS, Housing SA, Cornerstone Housing, Portway Housing, Unity Housing – NRAS, and Westside Housing.
Indigenous Hostels – The Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP) supports young Indigenous people (aged 16 - 24 years) from rural and remote areas who move away from home. There are two IYMP hostels in Adelaide, one for young women which is located in Torrensville and accommodates 11 residents; and one for young men in Glynde accommodating nine residents. Meals and utilities are included in the rent.
University of South Australia Preferred Student Accommodation
Off-campus is the preferred student accommodation in the University of South Australia. Only Whyalla Student Residential Village offers on-campus accommodation, and since early applications are allowed, it is not possible for most of the students to get into this accommodation. On the other, the off-campus accommodation of this university offers a wide variety of accommodations starting from residential colleges to indigenous hostels. Therefore, students can choose the most suitable accommodation as per their needs.
Edith Cowan Residential Services (MRS) Scholarships
Edith Cowan University offers the International Accommodation Bursary which recognizes the cost to live in Australia in relation to other countries. This scholarship offers up to 50% reduction in the accommodation fee on a 22-week or 44-week contract at the ECU Mount Lawley Student Village.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must:
- be an international student (not an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or New Zealand Citizen);
- be studying an undergraduate or masters by coursework program on-campus for the first time, at ECU Joondalup or ECU Mount Lawley locations in Semester 1, 2022;
- be able to meet mandatory vaccination and travel requirements set by the Australian and Western Australian Governments;
- New future students - must have accepted their offer between 26 May 2021 - 4 March 2022, to study at ECU Joondalup or ECU Mount Lawley;
- Continuing students - must have commenced their studies online between the academic teaching periods of 20 July 2020 - 20 July 2021 due to COVID-19, and be studying on-campus for the first time in Semester 1, 2022. Proof of valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) of offshore status may be required at the time of application;
- at all relevant times meet the entry and ongoing accommodation requirements of the ECU Student Village Mount Lawley; and
